On October 27, 2017, TKG Environmental Services was granted a permit to operate a general construction and demolition recycling transfer facility. Starting in November TKG is accepting clean shingles, wood and aggregates.
Within the next 60 days, a complete redistribution line will be operative at the facility located at 345 Lakewood Ave. Waukegan, IL 60085. This semi-automated line will allow TKG employees to separate clean demolition materials, sorting them into specific composition categories for recycling.
According to Daniel Katz, Vice President of Operations at TKG: “C & D [Construction and Demolition] materials have been identified as one of the largest components of the solid waste stream in the United States. Our desire to make an environmental impact by keeping recyclable materials out of landfills played a major role in TKG Environmental Services establishing our own independent recycling center.”
Company President, Richard Katz added: “A really significant percentage of the common construction and demolition waste materials can be re-purposed into other construction-related products. Post-demolition recycling provides a key benefit to our local community. Recycling these material saves limited, and expensive landfill space for materials that have no known recyclable purpose. On a larger macro-level, recycling reduces the global need to extract raw materials from the environment.”
A broad range of construction / demolition materials will eventually be accepted into the recycling process, including:
- Brick, Concrete, and other masonry materials
- Roofing Shingles
- Wall Coverings
- Plumbing fixtures
- Plastics and/or Cardboard
